Dental Anatomy

This course provides the student with knowledge of dental anatomy, along with, skeletal and muscular anatomy. Students will also learn the specific terminology used in dental anatomy.

Model Production

This course introduces students to the beginning steps in producing both fixed dental prosthetics and removables. Students will learn how to pour-up impressions, producing a working model of a dental patient's mouth for both fixed and edentulous casts. The methods used will be the Pindex system (fixed) and boxing method (edentulous). Students will also learn how to prepare the model for the next step in producing a fixed dental prosthetic. Included in this class, students will learn OSHA regulations pertaining to the dental laboratory.

Waxing I

This course introduces students to the waxing steps in producing fixed dental prosthetics. Students will learn how to wax copings, for both anterior and posterior teeth, used for full porcelain crowns. In addition, students will learn how to wax a three unit bridge, and sprue and invest these wax impressions to get ready for the casting process.

Prerequisite: Dental Anatomy, Model Production

Waxing II

This course will continue to teach the student the skills in producing wax models for fixed dental prosthetics. Students will focus on learning how to produce wax models for cast (gold) crowns and porcelain veneers. In addition, students will have the opportunity to continue to enhance their knowledge of producing bridges by learning the techniques in producing full cast bridges.

48 hours of hands-on instruction
Prerequisite: Material Sciences, Waxing I

Finishing/Polishing

This course will continue to enhance the student's skills needed in producing fixed dental prosthetics. Students will learn the process of wax elimination and casting. Students will also learn how to seat both porcelain copings and cast crowns. In addition, students will learn how to finish copings, preparing the metal for the bonding of porcelain and preparing copings for crowns needing porcelain margins. Students will also learn the skills of polishing (high shining) cast crowns, as well as soldering.

Prerequisite: Waxing II

Ceramics I

This course introduces the students to the beginning steps in building porcelain crown/bridge. Students will begin learning the oxidation process and then move on to opaque and building porcelain over metal. Students will be building single crowns and bridges, both full coverage and veneer.

Ceramics II

This course will continue to enhance the students' knowledge in producing a porcelain crown/bridge. Students will learn to grind contacts both mesial/distal and occlusal. In addition, students will learn to finish a porcelain crown/bridge by grinding anatomy and glazing.

Removables I

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed in producing full dentures. Students will learn how to produce edentulous models, wax bite-blocks, articulate, set-up teeth for try-in and finish the final processing of the denture.

Removables II

This course provides students with the knowledge and skills needed in producing partial dentures. Students will learn how to set the teeth for try-in and finish the final processing of the partial denture.

Specialty Classes

**Experienced technicians are eligible to take only the specialty classes upon passing an entrance exam for the class of their choosing.

Advanced Waxing

This course will teach the student advanced skills in producing wax models for fixed dental prothetics. Students will focus on learning how to wax a post & core (root canal), maryland bridge and cantilever bridge. Students will also learn how to wax a crown under partial/bite splint and design a crown for future partial.
48 hours of hands-on instruction
Prerequisite: Waxing I, Waxing II

Advanced Ceramics

This course will teach the student advanced skills in producing porcelain crowns and bridges. Students will focus on learning the art of staining. In addition, students will learn how to build porcelain margins.
48 hours of hands-on instruction
Prerequisite: Ceramics I, Ceramics II
**Required book must be purchased by student
**Required instruments must be purchased by student

Basic Orthodontic Appliances

This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills in producing orthodontic appliances. Appliances include but are not limited to: Hawley Retainer, Lower Spring Retainer, Spring/Hawley Combination Retainer, Circumferential Retainer, Band & Loop Space Maintainer and Solder 6X6 Lingual Arch.
48 hours of hands-on instruction
