 What is a Dental Technician?
Dental Technicians produce dental prosthetics. They work closely with the Dentist to create the perfect prosthetic needed for each individual patient.
What are Dental Prosthetics?
Examples of dental prosthetics are crowns, bridges, partials and dentures. See images on the home page (link above left).
What are the positive aspects of the dental technology field?
- The production of dental prosthetics is, at most, done by hand.
- Through the increased knowledge of good dental hygiene and increased popularity of cosmetic dentistry, the demand for dental prosthetics is rising dramatically.
- According to the American Dental Association, Dental Technicians find their jobs to be; Flexible, Independent, Creative, Secure, Personally fulfilling.
- Certification is offered by the National Board of Certification (NBC) in dental laboratory technology for those pursuing a top-level position in the dental technology field.
- For an entry-level position in a dental laboratory, certification is not required.
What are the benefits of training in the dental technology field?
- Although there is an increased demand for dental prosthetics, there is currently a low supply of trained dental technicians (especially in Michigan).
- Since dental care is a necessity for good health, there will always be a high demand for dental technicians.
- Those pursuing a career in dental technology will find that their skills are in high demand.
What are the benefits of training at Mid-Michigan School of Dental Technology?
- MMSDT is the only local school that offers training in the dental technology field.
- After taking only a few of the courses offered, students will have enough knowledge to get an entry-level position in a dental laboratory.
- After completion of all courses offered, students will have all the trade knowledge and hands-on skills needed to pass the National Certified Dental Technician (CDT) exam.
- Students will learn using both textbooks and hands-on training.
